This notion is fuelled by the political assertiveness of minority groups, efforts to convert Hindus to other faiths, suspicions that the political authorities are sympathetic to minority groups and the belief that foreign political and religious ideologies are destroying the Hindu community. Every morning at sunrise, groups of men in military-style uniforms gather together before saffron coloured flags, in all parts of India, to participate in a common set of rituals, physical exercises and lessons. For one hour each day, they are taught to think of themselves as a family with a mission to transform Hindu society. (Andersen and Damle 1) They are the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the largest and most influential organization in India committed to Hindu revivalism. The origins of nationalist movements in nineteenth century India can be traced to the expansion of Western, English education. Those attracted to the new education came primarily from high caste Hindu groups. Many of the proponents of social, political and religious reform among Hindus were drawn from this English educated class. Until very late in the nineteenth century, most politically articulate Indians were willing to collaborate with the colonial administration. However, a shift from collaboration to criticism began in the latter part of the nineteenth century. Two broad movements emerged among Hindus seeking to define their national identity: modernists and revivalists. The modernists adopted models of social and political change based upon Western patterns; they appreciated many of the Western philosophies and wanted India to follow suit. The revivalist view was based on returning to a Hindu antiquity that was thought to be superior for governing India?a ?Hindu? nation. Many felt that this desire to recreate the age of Hindu grandeur was also a result of English education; ideas of patriotism and nationalism crept into these peoples way of thought. It was the English study of the Indian way of life that added to the revivalist movement. Revivalism included those who wanted to preserve the traditional social order as well as those who sought to reform Hindu society as a way of strengthening Hindu solidarity. The RSS traces its roots to the revivalist feelings that were present at that time. The Hindu revivalists sought to recover fundamental truths about their people. They argued that the loss of national consciousness had created conditions that facilitated British domination of the land. By appealing to an idealized past, the revivalists reminded the Hindu public of the suffering and degradation experienced under British rule. Muslim rulers and the British were identified as sources of that disruption and many revivalist spokesmen sought to place limits on their political power and on their cultural influence. He was born on  December 13, 1902, and he died on May 8, 1979, after suffering a major stroke. Early Life and Education of Talcott Parsons Talcott Parsons was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. At the time, his father was a professor of English at Colorado College and vice-president of the college. Parsons studied biology, sociology, and philosophy as an undergraduate at Amherst College, receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 1924. He then studied at the London School of Economics and later earned his Ph.D. in economics and sociology from the University of Heidelberg in Germany. Career and Later Life Parsons taught at Amherst College for one year during 1927. After that, he became an instructor at Harvard University in the Department of Economics. At the time, no sociology department existed at Harvard. In 1931, Harvard’s first sociology department was created and Parsons became one of the new department’s two instructors. He later became a full professor. In 1946, Parsons was instrumental in forming the Department of Social Relations at Harvard, which was an interdisciplinary department of sociology, anthropology, and psychology. Parsons served as the chairman of that new department. He retired from Harvard in 1973. However, he continued writing and teaching at Universities across the United States. Parsons is most well known as a sociologist, however, he also taught courses and made contributions to other fields, including economics, race relations, and anthropology. Most of his work focused on the concept of structural functionalism, which is the idea of analyzing society through a general theoretical system. Personal responsibility is the ability to be in control of ones life in terms of actions, emotions, etc. Students who do not have personal responsibility concerning their lives are prone to influences of doing what others are doing by just following them without proper reasons. This lack of self-control comes about because any individual without a sense of personal responsibility will always be irresponsible. A student without personal responsibility will blame the lecture for failing in the exam when a responsible student with personal responsibility will rather analyze the reasons behind his/her failure and decide to take action to pass the exam. This explains why students who have a sense of personal responsibility have higher scores than those without personal responsibility (Bourbon, 1994). The other factor that makes students who take personal responsibility to succeed in college more than the others who do not take personal responsibility is that they do not allow circumstances to hinder their progress in life. They do have a high sense of self-esteem, which makes them to confront issues critically rather than emotionally. Students who feel that they are not in control pity themselves when they have issues to deal with in their lives thus affecting their physical health negatively. This may lead to absenteeism from classes and even suicidal cases (Charles,  2008). Students who are aware of the words personal responsibility also manage to delay gratification; it’s the ability to deny oneself pleasure in pursuit of a particular goal. Personal responsibility enables a student to stick out or to persevere in pursuit of academic excellence thereby delaying the enjoyment of pleasures, which may affect the concentration, or peace of mind in pursuit of excellence. Th e delay gratification of pleasures such as drug abuse, sexual relationships, and hooliganism are known to affect student’s academic performance (Bourbon, 1994). The Sixties Exposed in Takin' it to the Streets and The Dharma Bums      Ã‚   One cannot undertake any study of the 1960s in America without hearing about the struggles for social change. From civil rights to freedom of speech, civil disobedience and nonviolent protest became a central part of the sixties culture, albeit representative of only a small portion of the population. As Mario Savio, a Free Speech Movement (FSM) leader, wrote in an essay in 1964: "The most exciting things going on in America today are movements to change America" ("Takin' it to the Streets," 115). His essay is critical of those that maintain the status quo and oppose change in America. It seems quite obvious that change has occurred as a result of the efforts of this highly vocal minority and few would argue that these changes were not good and just, yet historical perspective allows us to also consider the "flaws" and contradictions of this sixties subculture.    It is rather ironic that a group so dedicated to fighting for societal change could also be part of a resistance to change in other aspects of the same society or could be a part of maintaining the status quo. Savio also stated: "The most crucial problems facing the United States today are the problem of automation and the problem of racial injustice" (113). A group seeking to change America, Savio and the minority he represented seem to be both advocating and resisting change. While fighting for changes in attitudes toward and the treatment of racial minorities, the group also opposed automation. It seems obvious that automation has been a highly instrumental force in changing American society and to oppose automation would seemingly be a definite resistance to change. While opinions... ...n 1968, Reagan condemned student militants, saying: "There has been general incitement against properly constituted law enforcement authorities and general trampling of the will, the rights and freedom of movement of the majority by the organized, militant, and highly vocal minority" ("Takin it to the Streets," 346). Aspects of My Personality Type After taking both the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator personality test and the Jung Typology Test, I was classified with the Introverted Sensing Thinking Judging (1ST J) personality type.SITS personality types are considered quiet reserved people who are loyal, faithfu l, and dependable (â€Å"Psychological Type†, 2014). They tend to express a strong sense of duty and commitment and are recently very serious individuals (â€Å"Jung Typology Test†, 2014). Gist's believe in laws and traditions and they are generally conservative in nature (Kroger, Teethes, & Rutledge, 2002). In the following paragraphs will discuss the validity of the different letters of my personality type and how they specifically relate to me.Introvert Preference On the Jung Typology Test, I scored a distinct preference of 67% introversion over extroversion. As an introvert, I tend to focus within myself for satisfaction. Frequently I have to force myself to interact with people in a social setting. I rarely enjoy hanging out in large groups of people. I prefer to spend time alone and would consider myself a â€Å"home body'. When I do go out, it is usually to a place where I don't have to interact with people on a personal level.Sitting in a dark movie theatre wi th my family or eating dinner at a restaurant are perfect examples of a low threat social setting. Throughout my life I have always had 1 or 2 deep friendships as opposed to a large group of friends. An occasional weakness with introverts is they are sometimes reel octant to work with others (Kroger, Teethes, & Rutledge, 2002). In my professional life, I am not quite as introverted. As a military member and manager of people, I have to interact with my subordinates and peers on a daily basis in order to facilitate mission accomplishment.Sensing Preference With a sensing presence of 62%, according to the Jung Typology Test, I seem to conform to approximately 70% of the U. S. Population regarding this preference (Kroger, Teethes, & Rutledge, 2002). Sensors are defined as individuals that prefer to get their information in a literal way from their 5 senses as opposed to getting information in a figurative way like an intuitive arson would (â€Å"Psychological Type†, 2014). In bo th my personal and professional life prefer to deal in facts and live by a set of rules. As a 25 year military veteran, have been conditioned to respond and react exactly this way.I tend to rely on my experiences to help me analyze the specifics as they are presented to me. A major weakness with my preference for sensing is that sometimes refuse to look at things from another perspective. Thinking In this measured area of the Jung Typology Test, I demonstrated a clear propensity for the thinking preference with a rating of 88%. As a manager in he military profession, pride myself on my ability to be objective, fair and firm. As a supervisor I frequently make difficult decisions and firmly believe that it is more important to be respected than liked. Always try to look at things from a logical perspective and try not to let my personal feelings get in the way of my decisions. One down side with the thinking preference is that it is possible to forget about the people perspective when you are making decisions (â€Å"Psychological Type†, 2014). Judging Preference The judging preference was my most definitive personality preference with rating of 100% on the Jung Typology Test. In my military profession I live by a schedule, make decisive judgments, and always try to follow the established rules and regulations. Onto like to wait until the last minute to do things. I am also very conservative and regulated in my approach to my personal and professional life. One weakness of my overwhelmingly strong judging preference is that frequently have little patience with people that are procrastinators, poor planners, or unable to make decisions. SITS Personality with a SO Temperament People with SITS personalities are considered internally focused individuals ho exhibit; strong senses of duty, good organizational skills, are driven to succeed, are honest, and value their integrity (â€Å"Psychological Type†, 2014).My temperament is a Sensing Judging (SO). SO temperaments desire to be associated with significant institutions or organizations (Kroger, Teethes, & Rutledge, 2002). As a Non-commissioned Officer in the united States Air Force this makes perfect sense. I enjoy the daily challenges associated with being an administrator and manager. I have a deep respect for the chain of command within my organization, and pride myself on being reliable. A active byproduct is that in my personal life my SO temperament can sometimes be overwhelming for my children because I tend to be a task master.Relating Personality Types to Organizations After reading Type Talk at Work, I have a greater knowledge of the 16 different personality types and how they relate to organizational behavior. As a manager in an organization, it is essential that I am able to calculate the internal strengths and weaknesses of my employees (Fisher, 2012). Understanding how to analyze an individual based on their personality type can be of enormous benefit to me as a super visor. Throughout my years as an enlisted manager in the IIS Air Force, I have learned that each individual is different and you have to manage them accordingly.For example; if I have to assign someone as training instructor, probably would look for an extrovert over an introvert. Since having someone who is comfortable speaking in front of people would be vital for this position, an extrovert personality would be a better choice. Motivation is also different based on personality. Extroverts enjoy being rewarded in public, while introverts might prefer a more low key setting. The early morning dew on the grass sparkled in the sunlight as it rose from behind the Gabilian mountains. The town of weed was silent, desolate and all you could hear was the flow of the river which was gushing in between the fresh green willows of the Salinas River. The mist was so fine all you could see was the top of the Gabilian Mountains. On the other side of the Salinas River slight dew glistened on the grass, of which there were branches overhanging the green murky pool. On the sandy bank there lay beneath the trees of which had leaves that were brittle from the sunlight. They would make a scurrying noise when the leaves are walked over. Rabbits leap and bound out from their warrens, full of energy from their sleep, going to sit on the golden sand. As the morning became brighter and more alive the wildlife came to arose from the dark to start a fresh new day. There was a vivid path of some sort that went through plants and trees, a path that had been disturbed by boys, men, heavily walking on it coming down from a hard grafts work in the ranches, heading towards the deep pool for a refreshing dip. From another direction there were two shadows of a of a relatively little sized person and a comparatively big in size person. From the shadow of the comparatively big in size person it was very tall and very strongly built and the shadow of the relatively little sized person look less strong and built. The leader of the two men looked as if he was the brain and boss of the large man. He looked like a father figure. Due to the town f weed being deserted the voices of these two men got louder as the came closer to the town of weed. The larger men of the two look as if he was tired and fed up because he was dragging his feet across the path. It looked as if it was an effort carry the weight of the larger man. Sweat was pouring off of him and as they got closer you could here him sighing and saying â€Å"Are we here yet.† â€Å"For Christ sake I have already told you Lennie that we have got a mile to go yet. Stop moaning, walked quicker and we will get there in no time at all!† George said very crossly. â€Å"Why George is it taking so long. Where are we going George? I am thirsty and hot George.† â€Å"Lennie! How many times will I have to say this we are going to Murray and Ready’s to get our work cards so they can give us some work? I can’t believe you forgot already! I only told you like 15 minutes ago!† George looked at Lennie as if he was a little child who couldn’t remember anything. George looked at him with disgust. â€Å"George, George, I am sorry, I really am sorry George.† â€Å"Lennie just shut up and don’t forget it again. I am not going to say it again.† For a little while there was silence. All you could hear was the rustling of the sand and dust from the path. Then George said â€Å"come on its not long now, we will be here soon.† As George and Lennie walked the final part to get to the ranch George told Lennie about his plans for them both to work on the ranch for a little while and collect some money and then get a place of their own with rabbit and chickens and other stuff. But George also told Lennie that he had to be on his best behaviour as they wanted work otherwise he wouldn’t get to tent the rabbits. â€Å"Right Lennie we are here now. Now you wait out side here and don’t move while I get the work cards.† â€Å"Ok George I wont move till you come back.† â€Å"Yeah and be good for gods sake we don’t want the boss to find out what a crazy bastard you are sometimes do we.† Said George. Whilst George was getting the work cards Lennie was sitting down waiting for him. Lennie started to get bored, so his eyes started to wonder the soundings around him. In the corner of his eye he saw something with looked soft, red dress. It was a young girl with her father. She had rosy cheeks and a friendly smile, and luscious red dress. Lennie thought about what George had said for a second, then looked over at the young girl as she walked and sat next to him. Lennie then decided despite what George had told him, to talk to her and say hello. Lennie took at her and saw red dress and could not bear touching it. The dress looked so velvety and so soft. As he touched the dress he startled her, and so she screamed, but he couldn’t let go because it was so silky but the harder he clenched his fists the more he pulled it and the angrier Lennie got, as she tried to get away. As the girl was screaming so loud the father heard and came out but before he had chance to see Lennie, Lennie ran off. George instantly knew that Lennie had done something wrong, so he went in search of Lennie. â€Å"You crazy basted what you go and do that for. It was all going well until you done that!† said George. â€Å"George, George I am sorry, I really am. I tried not to touch. I did George.† Lennie said frightfully as he realised George was very irate with him. George looked at Lennie with anxiety as they ran from the town off Weed. They headed for the forest to make sure anyone that was searching for them wouldn’t find them. â€Å"Bloody hell Lennie I knew that you couldn’t go without getting into trouble. Five minutes I left you for, five bloody minutes. What the hell am I going to do with you?† â€Å"George I couldn’t help it, you know I couldn’t it just looked†¦..† â€Å"JUST STOP THERE LENNIE!† â€Å"Its all ways sorry George, I didn’t mean too. Well now you can sort it out I don’t care!† Lennie looked at George with disappointment, but knew that he had done wrong. All Lennie could reply with was â€Å"I am sorry George, I forgot.† From that point, on there was little sound all the way to the ranch. They walked for miles and miles on end on a long, boring and dusty road. There was not one mutter of a word.

Many believe that universal grammar has a very strong influence on how well an individual is able to structure sentences and use grammar while others disagree, at least with regard to how important it is in different situations. It is often argued that universal grammar has at least a moderate influence on first language acquisition, but the affect it has on second language acquisition is where the controversies lie, with many researchers having opposing opinions. Individuals who learn a foreign language frequently experience problems with using correct grammar, at least until they are very advanced in the acquisition process. A lot of the time, individuals learning a second language take a very long time to become as proficient as native speakers are, and they even often never reach the same l evel of proficiency as native speakers of the language. The significance of this is highly debated however, with a variety of causes being outlined as possible from many different studies. Time and time again, it has been shown that individuals who learn a second language often use grammar inappropriately, even when they may be at least moderately accustomed to the language and have been learning it for a reasonably long amount of time. For example, Lu (2001) found that Chinese learners speaking English often used the word â€Å"the† when it would be more correct to use â€Å"a†. This is a trend that has been found in many so-called L2 learners (i.e. people who are learning a second language). Interestingly however, such errors have also been found in the acquisition of English as a first language. A good example of this was in a study by Schaeffer and Mathewson in 2005. They found that children learning English as a first language make very similar errors to the errors individuals learning a second language make. They also state that children seem to start off by obeying what seem to be innate universal grammar principals, but as their learning develops, they eventually start to apply the rules of the language in the way adults do (through learning, conditioning and observation). The suggestion here therefore is that universal language is the cause of this incorrect grammar usage in both children learning to speak and in adults learning a second language, at least to some degree. This implies that universal grammar may indeed have a role in second language acquisition, since it seems that there are certain innate rules of language development that everyone follows right or wrong. Of course, many other studies imply that universal grammar influences the individual to speak properly rather than wrongly (albeit, at a different stage of the language acquisition process). It is argued that the input an individual receives when learning a language is not enough to allow them to successfully and properly use grammar, therefore meaning innate language abilities have a strong influence on language development, at least with regard to first language acquisition and likely with second acquisition too (White, 1985). A big question is raised from this theory of universal grammar being so integral to successful language development. When considering the idea that a large part of grammar ability may be innate, one must question how to differentiate between innate language abilities and learned language knowledge knowledge that (for L2 learners) was gained from the learning of their first language. To differentiate between innate and learned phenomena, there are two areas to be considered (White, 1990). Firstly, the input the individual receives for learning the language should be insufficient for the phenomenon to be present. Secondly, it should be different from phenomena learned as part of the first language. The fulfilment of both of these criteria could in theory mean an innate language ability is responsible for the production of the specific phenomenon in the L2 learning. Most studies into L2 language acquisition have been based around adult learners. Zdorenko and Paradis (2007) however carried out a study into second language learning in children. Within this study, they addressed numerous questions, taking into account how much first language background affects second language acquisition. Their conclusions were that the childrens first language influenced their acquisition early on in the learning process, but not later on, once the child had become more competent. They do not directly suggest that any part of the L2 learning however is innate, and instead suggest that article semantics could be responsible for the presence of certain phenomena. The idea that universal grammar may have a role in the development of first language acquisition is generally more accepted than the idea that it plays a role in second language acquisition. This largely could be to do with the fact that determining a role for innate language abilities at the stage of learning a second language is a lot more challenging, since with first language acquisition the only confounding factor that needs to be taken into account is the level of input the learner receives about the language. Flynn (1996) suggested a model for the role of universal grammar in L2 learners. The model has 3 possibilities: the no access hypothesis, the partial access hypothesis and the full access hypothesis. The no access hypothesis states that universal grammar simply is not accessible to L2 learners and all learning is simply due to input the learner gains. The partial access hypothesis claims that universal grammar is partially available to the L2 learner, but only those parameters that characterise first language phenomena are available. The full access hypothesis states that universal grammar is completely available to L2 learners and that any differences between first and second language acquisition can be accounted for via other ways. If any part of this model is correct, it seems unlikely that it is the full access hypothesis. As stated previously, much evidence exists suggesting L2 language acquisition is rarely ever as complete as first language acquisition. Or at least, it is a much slower process and it takes a long time for L2 learners to become as proficient in the language as native speakers. Hale (1996) suggests that universal grammar is very difficult to distinguish from first language acquisition in L2 learners, implying that the two are almost one of the same. Indeed, many researchers agree with the idea that universal language is something that goes hand-in-hand with first language acquisition, but not with second language acquisition. It seems that the matter of how involved universal language is in second language acquisition may never be resolved. On one hand, the presence of certain phenomena in L2 that are absent in the first language along with evidence that the phenomena have not been learned suggest that maybe innate language skill do have a role in L2 learning, however evidence from Zdorenko and Paradis (2007) along with other studies suggest that innate language abilities at least dont hold the most significant level of importance. If universal grammar does have a role in the learning of a second language, Flynns hypothesis of partial access would arguably seem most plausible. The fact that many individuals learning a second language never become fully competent at it suggests that full access is not possible, since this would therefore suggest no variation in the ability to speak a second language from the ability to speak a first language. No access however seems unlikely to, since the fact that there are similarities in the mistakes L2 learners and children learning a first language make implies that there is some innate mechanism governing language ability; a mechanism all individuals have that predisposes them to language and which diminishes as they age but never fades. This theory is further backed up by the fact that, within the Zdorenko and Paradis study, they found that the children had features of language acquisition in common with both first and second language acquisition, implying that maybe thei r innate language skills (due to their age) were having an affect (although this is not an idea that is pointed out within the study). The ‘critical period hypothesis is a well-known theory of language acquisition which states that children are much more primed for learning languages than adults. This hypothesis fits together very well with the partial access hypothesis. The critical period hypothesis is widely accepted by a large number of linguists. One of the best known examples here is that of Genie, a girl brought up in social isolation, who started to learn to talk at a late age (Curtiss, 1977). Although she was shown to not be mentally impaired, she was never able to learn to speak properly. It is most likely this was due to her age and her inability therefore to gain full access to her innate language abilities. Therefore, universal grammar seems to be something that very possibly does influence L2 learning and adult learners, but its effect diminishes with age, and therefore children can learn languages first, second and beyond more effectively than adults.

The change of ethics through enterprises demonstrate how business approaches to ethics over the past years where ethics is seen in different perspectives. Lessons are learnt from financial failures in the lack of awareness in ethical performances to businesses. The recent global financial crisis has recently existed with a lack of awareness on business ethics policies where unprofessional practices are performed on dangerous mortgage borrowers have occurred without having any awareness of the outcomes of financial collapses (Lewis 2010). Business ethics is defined as the significance of moral performances on business in workplaces. The collapse of governance policies lead to the unsuccessful process of giving subprime mortgages to corporations that are incapable of managing their repayments on the mortgages which also leads to a downfall on house prices. With a failure to regulation policies to the financial crisis the stock market began to collapse where when people were unaware of this situation and mortgages started to have trouble increasing their capital on the balance sheets. Borrowing mortgages in the United States can also be part of a culture where citizens want to own their own houses but are still not aware of the dangerous downfalls that have occurred to companies that cannot repay their mortgages. Thus the situation for both regulation and governance collapses will only increase if no solution to the problem occurs such as being more aware of who borrows out the sub prime mortgages and what are the dangers with borrowing mortgages to the financial corporations. The economic crisis and financial disasters also play a role to the downfall of business ethics in the financial crisis where problems such as misunderstanding of communication in ethical behaviour arises (Jameson 2009). Huge companies in the economy had bad predictions and insufficient evidence to prove that mortgage investments were safe to be mortgaged out, where clients are not alert of the future threats of not being able to repay back the mortgages companies have given to the stakeholders.
